TenneT
Helping to make the energy transition happen is a monumental ambition and a serious challenge. TenneT operates in a complex political landscape, overseeing a rapidly growing organization and working in conjunction with numerous third-party providers. In this type of set-up, how does a company ensure that safety is guaranteed at all times?
While safety had always been a priority for TenneT, it had yet to adopt an organization-wide approach to “safety leadership” and safety as a value. The company began working on this from 2021 onwards, using the motto “Safety needs our energy”. TenneT drafted a statement clearly describing the type of behavior it would like its employees to adopt, and linked this to TenneT’s three core values of Ownership, Courage and Connection. Employees were familiarized with the statement through a series of workshops, in which they were also briefed on vital organizational change and desired models of ownership, both on a team and an individual basis. The upshot is that safety is now more firmly embedded in TenneT’s everyday operations: in consultations, meetings, and (to name one example) during the launch stage of projects, both within the company and with its partners. “Safety needs our energy” is becoming a core part of TenneT’s identity.
Ami’s Christian Schutte en Wilfred Haaijer are involved in all developments related to “Safety needs our energy.
Ami is supporting TenneT in developing a safety leadership culture and introduced the motto “Safety Needs Our Energy” for this purpose. This is the outcome of a co-creation process in which people at all levels of the organization are involved. Ami’s own safety leadership model, “Care, Invite and Speak up”, served as a template. More than 450 employees with formal leadership roles have already attended workshops and involved their teams in the changes to be made. Ami serves as a partner to the organization when it comes to embedding safety into everyday practices. The objective is to effect long-term change, so as to ensure that the desired safety behaviors are fully integrated into the organization’s identity.
Tim Meyerjürgens, CEO TenneT Duitsland
“It is our strong belief; to be truly successful in our role driving the energy transition, all colleagues who work for and with us will come home safely. Safety Needs Our Energy! This requires from each and one of us to proactively contribute to a culture where ‘care for each other’ is a cornerstone. Every day, in all situations, regardless of how great the pressure sometimes feel.
In the past years we have made enormous steps in our journey towards zero Harm. Ami is an important partner for us in that journey. Supporting us in having a shared vision towards safety, and engaging colleagues on all levels of our organization, in taking ownership and making a (lifesaving) difference.”
