We live in our beautiful Dutch Delta, and I enjoy it every day! To continue doing so together, we face enormous challenges. How do we keep our feet dry? How do we live and work as climate-neutrally as possible? How do we respect and promote biodiversity while keeping our lives pleasant and the land agile?

These are the challenges I have focused on since joining Ami in 1995. My goal is to make all the projects necessary for our dike reinforcements, coastal protection, road improvements, navigational maintenance, and electrical and water supplies a success. I recognize that these challenges are dynamic, growing, and increasingly complex, and that we can hardly find the people we need to address them. Achieving success requires us to learn how to approach these projects differently. Instead of rushing from project to project, we need to connect them intelligently. We must adopt a programmatic and synergistic approach, or as it’s popularly said, create work from work. In doing so, we learn together how to make the overall task of keeping our Dutch Delta livable manageable and surmountable.

“Successfully contributing to the challenges in our Dutch Delta requires us to learn to approach projects differently. It is my mission to contribute to this from a learning culture.”

I believe we can achieve this by maximizing everyone’s talent, strength, and experience. I see it as our role and my mission to contribute to this by fostering a culture of mutual challenge and learning every day.
